Larchmont village

Larchmont village is only one of the neighborhoods within the Larchmont Boulevard Community; this community consists of Fremont Place, Hancock Park, Larchmont Village, Park La Brea, and Windsor Square neighborhoods. Halfway between Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles is where you can find Larchmont Boulevard.

In the early 1920's, Larchmont Boulevard was developed; it is this boulevard that is the center of the community. Presently, Larchmont Boulevard is the meeting ground for neighbors and friends; here you can find fantastic restaurants, retail stores, and even a local barber shop.

Larchmont, is just over one city block, but has so much to offer. It is tucked between Melrose Avenue and Third Street where it gives a small town feel to one of the busiest areas around. The north side of Larchmont is just two blocks away from Paramount Studios, while its southern end, sits on the outer-boundaries of Hancock Park. Known primarily for its restaurants, Larchmont is home to affordable and some of the best restaurants around. The cuisines include upscale Italian, Japanese, Greek, South American, and Thai; as well as casual dining like pizza, sandwich shops, coffee shops, and an ice cream shop. Not only is the location convenient for dining, it is convenient for other necessities as well; there are also a bookstore, newsstand, hardware store, drug store, banks, a pet supply store, a veterinary clinic, and a local ticketron. With such charming appeal, it is not rare that one sees celebrities shopping and dining along the boulevard.

Larchmont History

Major Henry Hancock was given ownership to a large ranch in Los Angeles known as Rancho La Brea, in 1860. Under the surface of the property was a mass quantity of crude tar [called brea in Spanish] thus, the ranch was named Rancho La Brea. In the 1870's, Hancock found the skeletal remains of dinosaurs as well as the remains of one Indian woman within the tar pits. The area that contains the skeleton collection and the Tar Pits is what is now called Hancock Park. Major Henry Hancock also owned the land to the east which includes the residential area of Hancock Park.
